David Phillips

Six Domains of Leadership Certified Coach

Works with change-makers across education, tech, and public systems to amplify their voice, strengthen strategy, and lead with conviction.

David brings 20 years of professional experience as an executive coach, chief of staff, and management consultant in the social and business sectors. As the Founder of Panorama Advisors, he advises and coaches clients ranging from elected board members at the San Francisco Unified School District to operations leaders at Apple.

David's coaching approach is distinguished by three traits. First, he has deep real-world experience across the full spectrum of leadership and management challenges; he draws on this experiential knowledge to help clients make sense of their context and find solutions that work in practice, not just in theory. As one client put it: "David doesn't just talk the talk but also walks the walk. That's not something that all leaders do." Second, David engages the head and the heart, enabling clients to process information and emotions, thus opening the door to personal transformation. Third, he partners authentically with clients. He's curious, supportive, and humorous, creating space for real talk.

David's personal purpose is to make the world a more just place, especially for those furthest from power, and to support good people doing good work. His expertise includes organizational strategy, execution, team development, facilitation, and board governance.

David holds an MBA from The Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, a BA from Rhodes College, and an Executive Coaching Certificate from the University of California, Berkeley. An Alabama native, David lives in Berkeley, CA with his wife and two children.
